Quantitative Researcher
About the Role
We are looking for an exceptional Quantitative Researcher to join Gondor’s existing liquid crypto
trading business and help define its next phase of growth in frontier markets.
You will work with our team on live systematic strategies across digital asset markets. This
includes improving signal research, execution, portfolio construction, risk-taking, and post-trade
analysis within an established trading operation.
Your mandate will also extend beyond the current book. We want someone capable of
investigating new markets, products, and strategy areas where Gondor can build durable,
scalable edge. This could include new systematic strategies within crypto, adjacent liquid
markets, derivatives, volatility, market structure opportunities, or entirely new areas where our
capital, infrastructure, and research process can be applied.
This is a role for someone who wants more than a narrow research seat. You will be part of an
existing high-performing crypto trading desk, but with the scope to help shape what Gondor
trades next.
Role Responsibilities
• Develop, test, and deploy quantitative models using statistical, econometric, and machine
learning techniques, with direct ownership over their PnL contribution.
• Explore diverse datasets, including market microstructure data, derivatives and
macroeconomic series, to uncover persistent monetizable trading signals.
• Collaborate with our quant research team to productionize models, optimize execution,
and enhance data and research infrastructure.
• Conduct rigorous backtesting, scenario analysis, and post-trade attribution to evaluate
PnL drivers and refine model performance.
• Contribute to research pipelines and tooling that accelerate alpha discovery and strategy
iteration.
• Contribute directly to PnL, risk-taking, and the strategic direction of the fund.
• Help shape broader firm priorities, including research direction, market selection,
infrastructure, process, and how Gondor compounds edge over time.
Must-Haves
• 2–5 years of experience quantitative research, systematic trading, or a closely related
role at a top-tier proprietary trading firm, hedge fund, or systematic trading platform.
• Exceptional academic and technical background, with strong foundations in statistics,
probability, machine learning, optimization, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Proven ability to conduct rigorous research on noisy financial datasets and translate
insights into live or production-relevant trading strategies.
• Strong programming ability, preferably in Python or a similar language, with the ability to
work independently across research, data analysis, and prototyping.
• Clear evidence of being in the top tier of your peer group: intellectually, technically, and
commercially.
• High ownership mindset. You should be excited by ambiguity, responsibility, and the
opportunity to build rather than simply slot into an existing machine.
What We’re Looking For
• Someone trained in a high-performance trading environment who wants a broader
mandate and a more entrepreneurial seat.
• Strong research judgement: the ability to distinguish real signal from noise, ask good
questions, and avoid overfitting or fragile conclusions.
• Intellectual independence: you should be comfortable forming your own views,
challenging assumptions, and proposing new directions.
• Firm-building mindset: you care about more than isolated trading problems. You are
interested in research direction, infrastructure, process, risk, team quality, and how the
firm compounds edge over time. You want to help shape a world-class trading business,
not just contribute models to one.
• Strategic judgement: you can help identify not only whether a signal works, but whether
an opportunity is worth pursuing and how it fits into the broader direction of the fund.
• Strong communication skills. You should be able to explain research clearly to both
technical and trading-focused colleagues.
• Experience in digital asset markets is favourable but not required.
About the Fund
Gondor Capital is a proprietary trading fund, specialising in frontier markets, with nine figures in
assets under management. We employ a quantitative and fundamentally informed approach,
specializing in medium-frequency liquid trading. Our team includes alumni from leading
traditional finance firms such as Jane Street, Optiver, and Susquehanna.
Crypto was once dismissed as speculative and immature, but it developed deep liquidity,
sophisticated derivatives, and institutional participation. We are interested in the next versions of
that transition: markets where pricing is still inefficient, data is messy, participants are noninstitutional, and strong quantitative/trading infrastructure can crea
